In Following Jesus His spirit will move in our hearts to serve what is important to God. His interests and compassions will become ours. Jesus loves the local church and we demonstrate our love for His church by serving her needs and volunteering. At every week-end worship service we need devoted followers of Jesus to usher, prepare communion, serve in children’s ministry, guest ministries and do tech support, to name a few.

Supporting every worship experience for Adults and Youth simultaneously takes a minimum of 200 volunteers. When anyone regularly attending a worship service never serves it means someone else is serving every week or in many cases in multiple ministries.

Ironically our church phone number is 722-8020 and reflects the cultural trend that 20% of the people do 80% of the work.

Everyone who follows Jesus benefits from being in the local church. In turn we are called to participate in meeting the needs of the church.

In Community and through our small groups we can accomplish even more as we collaborate together using our gifts to meet needs within the church or outside the walls. Your small group could serve monthly on the Monday night Visitation team. What joy you can share in as you visit our first time guests and take them cookies. With the entire group participating, you could still have time to meet back up and do a study or dinner together. Your small group by volunteering a few hours a month could literally change the life circumstances for an overwhelmed single Mom or widow. You can show the love of Christ by helping with her children, home projects, yard work, filling her fridge, or doing car maintenance.

For Others is an additional serving step that may require even greater sacrifice and getting out of our comfort zone. There are midweek opportunities to serve our youth in Ignite and Awanas, help with office needs and support MAPS, an outreach ministry to Mothers and Preschoolers. In our community there are Para-church organizations like the Pregnancy Crisis Center, World Impact, Union Rescue Mission, Food Bank and the Lord’s Diner. For Others may mean sacrificing vacation time to go on a Short Term Missions Trip to rebuild a community devastated by a tornado of flood. God may call you to serve in Africa’s Mathare Valley, the world’s largest slum or teach new beleivers in India, Ukraine or Austria.

We all have the privilege and responsibility to Serve as we Follow Jesus, In community, for Others. In doing so we will become fully devoted followers and our church will continue to connect people to Jesus here and World-wide.
