Pathway's History
Westlink Christian Church was planted by West Side Christian Church in 1959. The church charter was held open for three months so that 100 members were formally listed as charter members when the charter was filed with the state that year. The first pastor was Delmar Follis and the church met in those early years in the gymnasium, hallways and in the “little red school house” at Peterson Elementary School.
In 1963, a new building was constructed at 10th St. and Tyler Road, followed in 1964 by the calling of Dr. N. Gene Carlson to be the growing church’s new pastor.
During the 60’s the church grew in size to around 300 in regular attendance and an educational wing was added to the facility. A small group ministry began.
In the 70’s, the church continued to grow numerically with a strong focus on Bible teaching from the pulpit. An additional service was added on Sunday mornings. If addition, strong influence from the Navigators and Campus Crusade ministries brought a renewed focus on evangelism, discipleship and missions (including the first short term teams being sent). Additional staff joined the ministry team to help in these areas.
In 1979, the church expanded the facilities by building a new worship center and additional classrooms. “Back-to-back” classes and worship services helped to continue the growth at the 10th and Tyler location.
In the 90’s, the church began to look seriously at relocating. With 3 services on Sunday mornings, a Saturday night service and off-site parking at Northwest High School across the street, there was a great need for additional facilities.
In the first few years of the 21st century, Westlink sold their facility, relocated to a new site and new facility with 90,000 sq. ft. (2003). In 2007 additional facilities for students and children were added.
In 2006, Sr. Pastor Gene Carlson retired after 42 years of leadership at Westlink. Todd Carter, a long-time Associate Pastor at Westlink became the new Lead Pastor.
In 2011, Westlink began a new chapter to help more people in our region “follow Jesus in community for others” by becoming a multi-site church. January 1, 2012 Westlink Christian Church became Pathway Church. Our first campus was launched in the city of Goddard in February of 2012 and other campuses are being planned.
Today, Pathway serves more than 6000 people who call Pathway their church home, and we have 3000+ people in attendance at our weekend services.
